St. Nicholas’ International College Colombo was inaugurated on September 9th 1991 with a Board of Governors, Chairman of which is the Archbishop of Colombo.  St. Nicholas’ is the pioneer Catholic International School in Sri Lanka governed by the Archdiocese of Colombo.

St. Nicholas International College Colombo is ranked among the elite International schools in Sri Lanka and is centrally located in Pelawatte, Battaramulla at present with more spacious buildings and facilities. A branch of the College was established in 2003 in a pre-dominantly catholic area in Negombo. While providing the students with an excellent academic foundation from Play School up to GCE advanced level, the College holds out its lofty motto “The Learned shine like stars”(which is a quotation taken from the Holy Bible) to inspire both students and teachers to reach for the stars. Discipline is tenaciously and discriminately enforced with a view to forming discipline and methodical minds.

An Internationally Recognized British Curriculum

Achieving Academic Excellence Through Cambridge Standards and a Holistic Approach

The curriculum is based on the British system of education and is designed to provide a well-balanced education placing equal importance to high academic performance, cultural integration and extracurricular activities. The qualifications are taken in over 160 countries and are recognized by universities, education providers and employers across the world.

The curriculum includes mainstream subjects such as Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Computer science, French, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Accounts, Economics, Business studies, and religious studies (in cooperating with all the religions). Curriculum is based on the Cambridge syllabus GCE Ordinary Level as well as Advanced Subsidiary Level and Advanced Level. The exams are affiliated with the University of Cambridge.

Our Ordinary Level and Advance level Cambridge exams has always been a 100% pass mark in the Commerce, Science and the Maths Streams.  The students had obtained a number of 49 A*’s & A’s for the OL & AL Exams held this year in the May/June 2022 Series.  A committed set of teachers and students work hard together in-order to achieve their targets & goals.  

Empowering Students Through Sports, Clubs, and Competitions

Developing Talent, Leadership, and Team Spirit with Professional Guidance and Annual Events

Sports such as Badminton, Athletics, Basketball, Karate, Swimming, Squash, Futsal and the Clubs and Societies such as Model United Nations Club, the 94th Girl Guide Company, Butterflies, Little Friends, Cub Scouts, the Interact Club and Choir are all trained by professional coaches and teachers.

Speech contests, Reading competitions, Essay Competitions, Poster Competitions, Debating competitions, Science Exhibition and Environmental Day Exhibition are organized annually while opportunities are provided to the students to display their skills on stage at the Annual Concert. The Annual Inter House Sports Meet and Swimming Meet are also integral activities of the school calendar.

The College has achieved many awards in the recent past namely, The Choristers won the Island wide best Choir Competition, Western Province Karate tournament many awards were achieved, Inter International Futsal Tournament, Model United Nations conference awards, Inter International Schools Swimming meets and much more.

Fostering Spiritual Growth and Respect for All Religions in a Supportive Learning Environment

Being a Catholic International School, equal importance is given to holistic activities such as the Holy Eucharist, which is the source and summit of the Catholic faith, and is celebrated every first Friday and on other obligatory days. Opportunities are provided for the Catholic students to prepare and receive the sacraments such as the First Holy Communion, Sacrament of Reconciliation and Confirmation. During the season of Lent, the College organizes a Lenten retreat for the Christian students while the nativity play and carol service is held annually in December. Furthermore, other religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam are also taught as students from these faiths are enrolled without discrimination.

The Quality of the school is not measured by the number of students but it is the quality of education and discipline.  In this regard St. Nicholas’ International has been in fore front with a dedicated staff and traditions.
